Dem Germanyz

Pyllytippa (Buttdrop) hehehaheha

Deutschland surprised us with it's difficulty to hitchhike; we did get lifts for sure, but they were mostly just short distances to a closest village or so. Also the 2/4 rides of that day were from Turkish people :---D Come on, Germans!! First guys didn't speak much English, so they called to their friend who they used as a translator to communicate with us. That was pretty considerate! The next dude was German and had a nice, spacious van as you can see from below:

Unfortunately he left us to a really crappy place where we had to wait for about 1,5 hour to get the next really short ride to a gas station (PISS, FINALLY!!). Those men were Turkish again and they used Google Translate instead of human translator :-----D We also got bunch of Red Bull-cans from them, great success! While we ate some bread with our hitchhike-sign next to us, middle-aged dude came to offer us a ride to village near Hannover. It was already almost 6pm so we were really really thankful for the longest ride of the day. The local train to Hannover central costed 4,20e so that was the whole travel cost of the day. B---)

In Hannover we couchsurfed too and yet again the flat was so amazing. Ours hosts Annika and Simon really had made an effort for the interior to make the place look both cozy and stunning. Since Simon had a next day off, after eating some kick-ass salad and soup, we went to couple of bars and got accidentally wasted :---D The next day Santtu's flu had gotten a lot worse (might have been the Hannover-hangover too...), but luckily our hosts were so kind that they gave us lots of different flu medicine and painkillers. Cheers to that! We both agreed to find a carpool-ride instead of hitchhiking to Berlin. After strolling around at "the hip" part of the town (because we're so goddamn cool gals) we hurried to meet our driver.

This was one most interesting vending machines we saw in there :----D

Our driver from carpooling.co.uk was a really nice dude, 26 years old Turkish guy (AGAIN), an investment banker. He had a two weeks old BMW, ridiculously fancy super mega robot car :----D He's doing carpooling just to get company, not for the money (obviously). For us it would've been so boring to buy a cheap bus tickets to Berlin instead of actually meeting someone and having conversations about normal life, what they do and what we do. That's the beauty of hitchhiking too. So good for us, we got the "minister ride" for the same price. On Thursday we drove "only" 180km/h at Autobahn but this time 220km/h :-------D IT WAS NUTS! The driver said that he usually likes to drive 250km/h but on Friday there was a lot of traffic so max speed was "only" 220 8D Fastest carpool ride _ever_, top tier!

Dem hippies at the posh BMW, while driver buys McDonalds "shitbag" to go 8DD

So, we are in Berlin now, been here since Friday. We're staying at Jesse's flat (he's a friend of a friend), a Finnish guy who works here. It's a studio apartment but he said that "pari mirkkua mahtuu aina" (there's always room for couple of chicks) :-----D Jesse has been a great host, nurse and a tour guide showing us the city. On Friday we just ate the famous döner (so good) and had a couple of beers before hitting the hay. Then on Saturday after our own little brunch we ate some more (:---D) at really cool restaurant called White Trash (definitely go here if you have the chance!). Best fokken salad WITH BACON everrr! Later in the evening White Hills had a gig with The Loranes, so we went there, took couple of beers and then just went to bed. Crazy_party_Berlin666...

 Urban Spree, the gig venue

The biggest motherfucking Berliner EVER!!! (a mug for the scale)

On Sunday Santtu was feeling so bad that she stayed in bed watching Game of Thrones for the whole day, boohooo. Instead Aino went out with Jesse to walk around the neighborhood and visited abandoned airport area,  Templehof. It was pretty weird to see all those people to hang out and grill there, just a basic Sunday in an airport :D Cabin crew please be seated, too much ribs to be eaten fdkfjalfla ::::D Later they went to eat super good ramen-soup and on a way back they took take-away sushi for the flu patient.

 Santtu "enjoying" her Sunday...

...and Aino doing the same at abandoned airport/park.

Berlin has a lot to offer what comes to food, price/quality level in here is pretty great. This is a bit more expensive than the rest of Germany but you can still find cheap food that is not total crap. It's a big city so a week here is not enough, our trip has been just a scratch to the surface. Plus the fucking flu that stopped us partying our asses off at those famous techno-parties (still on the bucket list), visiting some interesting museums, drinking tons of cheap beer and just admiring Berlin and its citizens. We need to save those things for the next time, 'cause this is how we spent our late evenings (not that we have much to complain):

Jesse and the bugger-sirens D: Pizza, beer and Workaholics

It might seem that we had really boring time here 'cause our bodies just failed on us, but the little we experienced, we fully enjoyed. Like on Monday we bought a day ticket and figured out how the public transportation here works. Bit more complicated than Helsinki metro, DUH. It was nice just to sit on a train and observe what people are doing in here. The normal life.

AH AH OR UH AH SUN IS SETTING

Testing: 0,35e worth of cheapest Lidl beer, tastes like beer, would buy again 3/5

Tomorrow morning: London baby! WHOOP WHOOOP EHOOPP EHEH

That's how I roll (eli niin meikä käärii)

First of all, here's how ridiculously twins we look with our matching backpacks (probably there's something with the hair and/or clothing too) B----D

Then, ROADBURN! So happy that it exists! Everything was super duper awesome, for example these great people here. This is only just a few people of our whole huge group.

It's always quite hectic to see all the bands you want at Roadburn. There's five stages so there is no way you can see them all. On Sunday Afterburner was a bit ruff day, everyone was super tired and walked like snails. But even though our bodies were tired, our spirits still wanted more music :------D It was so cool to sit and watch the whole Suspiria-movie on main stage. We haven't seen the it before and did enjoy it a lot. All the colors, weird moments and mysterious buildings combined to live soundtrack by Claudio Simonetti's Goblin. Pure awesomeness! Also Russian Circles, Monolord, Kandodo, Tombs, Bongripper, Majeure, The Heads, Wardruna, Pyramidal, Eyehategod, Zombi, White Hills, Terminal Cheesecake and many more kicked some serious ass. As usual, there was couple of really great surprises too like Briqueville, Messenger and Sun Worship.

On Monday morning we packed our stuff from Beekse-Bergen cabins and cleaned the place up. Weird moment to realize that this is over again :D It was only a week ago when it all had begun. We hanged around in Tilburg for couple of hours with Patrick, Ole, Henna and Sven, just taking it easy and have a lunch. They all were going to Amsterdam to catch their flight later on and we were heading to Eindhoven so we snailed to the train station. Again with the goodbyes ;____;

Coincidentally one friend of ours (who was staying with us in Beekse-Bergen too) had a hotel room in Eindhoven, so we decided to try to mooch into his hotel room for one night. We don't want to mention the name so that he won't be in trouble since his employer payed the room :-------D Anyway it worked and we cancelled our cheap hostel and stayed in that fancy-ass business hotel instead, WHAT UP BITCHES PART 2! Seriously, look at this place B)

Eindhoven seemed really interesting town, we had incredible food in one cool restaurant and town looked nice as much as we saw it. Would be nice to go there again, it's a really good alternative to Amsterdam (been there, done that). Later in the evening we bought a bucket of chicken from KCF because neither of Aino or the mystery man haven't had it before. Bucketlist checked once again. So we sneaked back to hotel and ate it in bed while drinking beer and watching some pretty nuts Dutch tv-show. KFC was pretty disgusting, no need to buy that crap again D:

Tuesday morning we once again packed our various stuff from the hotel, had a quick breakfast at a cafeteria nearby and headed hitchhiking. Our spot was good, a lot of cars passing by but DUISBURG-sign didn't work too well. Santtu bought us ice cream and we stood there with a happy mood enjoying the sun :3 Time passed by and we decided to change the sing to GERMANY :-------D So obvious. Cars started to stop and one old guy took us in. He was heading to Venlo which is right next to Dutch - German border. He didn't speak that much English but we understood each other quite well and he promised to drop us at some gas station. After all there wasn't any nearby Venlo, so he drove us all the way to Duisburg! Funny old guy who smoked a lot of cigarettes and listened pretty loud this weird radio channel that played mostly 90's eurodance music BD

Lot of our German friends had wondered why the hell do we want to go to Duisburg since it's like Germany's Kouvola (:D) and to be honest we decided to take our first pit stop there only because it was conveniently along on our way to Berlin. We both think that there's nice people and interesting places in every goddamn small town, you just have to find them. Duisburg most certainly didn't let us down and ended up being such a great experience, mostly thanks to our wonderful couchsurfing-hosts Dora and Ann. They basically spoiled us with their better than a hostel beds, tasty food and personal taxi-services B---D On top of it all, the weather couldn't have been better either. +25°C, warm wind, sun shining with a blue sky and incredible delicious ice cream, JUST PERRRFECT!

One of the coolest things was that Dora and Ann took us to a place called Landscape Park which is an old iron mill. Here's what it's said on their web site:
"Over a period of more than ten years, a culture, nature and leisure park has been created around the old ironworks which is unique in terms of its multi-faceted combination of uses. Walking, cycling, playing, letting off steam, enjoying the view from Blast Furnace 5 and relaxing in the beer garden or restaurant are just a few of the many possibilities a visit provides. And at night Jonathan Park’s light installation shines over the houses of the city - a Duisburg landmark visible from a distance."
There was plenty of cool climbing walls in different parts of the factory area and a lot of people climbing too. It would have been so cool to climb here! Definitely need to come back for that and to see the place at nighttime with all the colorful lights.

Aino has been a little sick, so fingers crossed now that she'll get better and we'll easily get a ride to Hannover today. Hitchhike starts about now!

SUPER____UP____DATE

PHEW! Our flight on Monday went ok, took total 6 hours with one stop in Riga. We didn't sleep much at Sun-Mon night so we were all soooo tired. Quite funny that we were totally exhausted on the first day of the trip :D We needed to take a nap and get some food. A lot of food.

First thing to do in Amsterdam was to check in to our hostel. There was quite nice surprise waiting: the hostel had fucked up our reservation! We had reserved a room for 5 people (Olav and John were coming with us too), no toilet or shower. The basic cheap ass hostel to avoid spending too much money. Receptionist told us that he is very sorry that they fucked up BUT they still have a 5 person room for us in a 3 star hotel :D So we got a room with own shower and toilet and a restaurant-level breakfast :---------D WHAT UP BITCHES! Best accident ever.

Breakfast was oooosssssooooooom :D We stuffed our tummys full and went back to bed, then checked out. Train tickets to Tilburg were a bit more expensive than last year. It was really good to finally get going towards Roadburn! Most of our Norwegian and Finnish friends took the same train with us. This year we had six cabins reserved at Holiday Park Beekse-Bergen. When all the basic grocery and booze store hustle was over it was nice just to chill out.

On Wednesday we went to the La Trappe Monastery to eat and drink beer! Our cabin-mates were kind and gave us a lift with their bikes there, what a bumpy ride that was :---D Food at the monastry was great, beers were splendid and really cheap. Monastery has it's own brewery so all the beers were super high quality. Tour costed 12e so we skipped but it would be nice to go to see the whole monastery area, buildings were huge and interesting. Maybe next time we got more money (yeah, right....).

In the evening we went biking with Henna, Ole and Sven. The whole camping area was so quiet and calm. We just rolled slowly and enjoyed the moment. Beach had an absolutely incredible view to the night sky and to the pond. What a night, huhhuhhh.

Today is Thursday and the Roadburn is starting. We are SO happy that this is happening again :D Henna is very excited, finally going to lose her burn-virginity :-----D It's going to be quite a hustle, there's so many bands to see today. We better get ready.

Cheers,
Aino + Santtu = Anttu

Square one

So, the journey has begun. Santtu took a train from Savo to Helsinki this Sunday morning, she was visiting her parents. I decided to hitchhike from Tampere to Helsinki and use that travelmoney to FOOD 8D

I waited 40min beside the road on a bus stop to get a ride. That's quite basic time to wait on that spot. Finally a van stopped and took me! Driver is a older asian man! Im glad that he is going  to East Helsinki aswell. Just helped him to pour tea from his thermos bottle :D Not much of a talker.

For some reason I think Im going to spend the money on chinese food.

Our flight leaves really early in the morning on Monday, we have to be at the airport like 04 am. We are going to spend the night with our friends place in Helsinki and they are also so friendly that they'll drive us to the airport in the night! Awesome to the max! Henna is going to join us today, she has the same flight with us tomorrow. A Roadburn-virgin but totally going to enjoy it!

Probably not going to sleep alot this night but yeah, it doesn't matter really. Journey starts soon!

Tour de Pörinä // Tour de Buzz

This is what we've been up to: Tour de Pörinä all over Europe!
Travelblog containing some blablablah during our trip, we have not kept a travelblog ever, so this is a fine start to it. Lots of spelling errors and some photos along the way. Hopefully we enjoy writing the stories as much as you like to read them. It's all about the boogie!

Let's get the facts straight:
People: Aino and Santtu
Travel time: 6.4 - 4.5.2015
Budget: LOW, OH SO LOW 8D
Places: Netherlands (Amsterdam, Tilburg, Eindhoven) - Germany (Duisburg, Hannover, Berlin) - UK (London) - Denmark (Copenhagen)
Methods: Flying, hitchhiking, couchsurfing + the basics
Reason: We've visited Roadburn festival for many years and always dreamt of extending the trip to other festivals in Europe. So this year we do it.

First festival to attend to is the one and only Holy Temple of Doom, Roadburn in Tilburg. Staying almost one week at Beekse-Bergen cabins, there's an unique atmosphere. Even cooking breakfast, lying on the couch and talking shit with good friends (that we see too rarely ;) ;) ) makes it perfect. And ofcourse the celebrating, partying, feasting -part of it all. And like years before, there's shitloads of awesome bands to see. When Roadburn is over we hitchhike to Berlin Germany, spend there couple of days (never been in Berlin before, really looking forward to it!). In Berlin there's alot to see and do, if you got cool tips you can suggest some! Hitchhiking part is about 640km and we probably got hands full of ___b. Hitchhiking route is guite planned but everything can change!

After hangin out in Berlin we fly to London for The Desertfest! Our first Desertfest :,) Also Santtu's first time in London, I've been there for 24 hours couple of years ago, so looking forward to see more of it. Lots of great bands, festival is in Camden area, should work 5/5. We are bit concerned about London being expensive but whatevs, we'll have to manage. Got nice people hosting us there, already booked one vinyl souvenir from Roadburn to bring with us to London. Lets hope that we get it (limited 250 copies) and lets hope it's a good exchange for letting us stay in the couch :------D

Next stop is Copenhagen in Denmark. Festival número tres is Heavy Days in Doom Town! We've heard lots and lots of good stuff about it. Festivals website tells us this: " Festival is based on D.I.Y. ethics, meaning that the festival is 100% non-commercial, seeking to be an alternative to the corporate music business and commercial festivals. All the work in the process of organising and during the actual fest is on a volunteer basis, so neither we the organisers, nor the bands playing the fest, are making a profit. The festival is vegan, meaning that all food served at the festival will be without meat, eggs and dairy." Bands, prices are reasonable, lots of DIY. Interesting stuff coming. We've never been in Copenhagen before, nice to visit only Skandinavian capital we haven't been yet!

After HDDT it's time to return to Finland. Already pondering about all the cool people we'll meet and how we'll miss every one we already know. But we don't want to think about that yet, too good travelling hype going on now!

We both love travelblogs, especially those ones that inspire doing even the basic stuff abroad, gets you excited in the middle of the night so bad that it's difficult to go to bed, all those good stories about hitchhiking and if something goes wrong, how you dealt with it. Reading about the child-like exploration of the world! That is what we want this blog to be. Or if it's too hard to keep updating this, then it's a boohoo for you guys :--------------D May also happen: ease things up a bit and change update-language to finnish. Can't promise nothing else that we ain't home!

There's no stopping the doomtrain, let the plot thiken!
